Derbyshire Bowls Association

It is no surprise that following such a good year the following have been selected for England trials in September.

Phil Broughton who reached four county finals (winning three of them) and was also captain and a skip in the Balcomb Trophy team that reached the semi-final at Leamington deserves another chance to represent England (following on from U25 honours several years ago).

Daniel Thornhill who reached two county finals, winning both, and also skipped a rink in the Balcomb deserves this first chance too. Good luck to both these 'newcomers'

Ashley Clipston has also been rewarded for continued success - playing for England in this year's Home Internationals - and has also been invited to attend the 'training camp' for a restricted number of bowlers as well as the England trials.

The following players qualified for the National Championships at Leamington in August. Well done to all those who have got through.

2 Wood Singles - Bob Prati and Phil Broughton

4 Wood Singles - Russell Robinson and Dan Thornhill

Pairs - Jamie Haskins/Phil Broughton and Josh Grant/Dan Thornhill

Trips - Ben Bywater, Josh Grant & Dan Thornhill and Martyn Allsopp, James Hornsby & John Arnett

All players representing the County did so with honours. Welcome to the new Derbyshire Bowls Association web site. The county have been fortunate in obtaining sponsorship from Chatsworth Wealth Management. We have to thank Chris Gooding who made the first contact with us and for facilitating a meeting between the County and the sponsors. We asked that part of the sponsorship deal was to have a new web site built which we had better access to, in order to keep all parts of the site more up to date than has been possible in the past.

The representatives from Chatsworth Wealth Management, Colin Smith and Rick Fawdrey, not only agreed to sponsor the website but also to provide new caps for the county players and bowls towels which our players and officials can use. There will also be a sponsors banner to display at Long Eaton Town.

The design of the web site was put into the very capable hands of Katy Smith and what you see has only been made possible by her determination to provide the site we asked for. She could not have been more helpful and patient as we have made our requests for changes to her original design and for help in understanding how we can access the site and edit detail for ourselves.

So a big thank you to all involved in this process. It has happened quickly and we hope you will enjoy the site which will progress further in the next few weeks.
